there are 4 main points you need to include in a good maid of honor speech, keep reading to find out how.

Putting the right ingredients in to a maid of honor sister speech

you feel honored and overwhelmed, the wedding day has come upon us, and your sister the bride has asked you to give a special maid of honor speech.

putting together a maid of honor speech is a daunting prospect, especially when it is your own sister, but rather than giving you nightmares you could follow a simple formula to make sure your maid of honor speech flows freely and is a great success.

It is widely acknowledged that the number two fear is death, number one is public speaking, and while this seems a bit far fetched, public speaking can cause anxiety, stress and sleepless nights, unless of course you have a well prepared speech that will fill you with confidence, and allow your speech to flow effortlessly from beginning to end.

It’s important to think about what you want to say beforehand, a good idea is to get some 3×5 cards and write out some bullet points of what you would like to cover, do not write it out word for word as you will struggle to read it out loud in front of a reception room full of wedding guests, also take some time out to practice your speech - in front of the mirror is the best option.

if you want to write a brilliant maid of honor sister speech, here are a few pointers of what your speech should contain to make it a success.

you need to let her know you will always be there for her, and that your relationship as sisters will always remain special

Make sure you welcome the groom into the family, and express just how happy you are for the both of them on this special day

mention a humorous incident the two of you shared while growing up, and also something that touched both your hearts, maybe a special Christmas or birthday etc or the fun of trying on your bridesmaid dresses anything funny that you can remember

wrapping it up you need to toast the future happiness of your sister and new husband, and simply let her know just how much you love her

although you maid of honor speech is only a small part of a big day, it is important to relax and have a good time, knowing that you have put some effort, time and practice into your speech before the wedding day arrived

most wedding speeches and toasts take a good bit of effort to make sure you get the right mix of emotion and humour, but if you follow the guidelines given here and in my other maid of honor articles, you will have a memorable maid of honor speech you can be proud of

cute wedding poems realy make the bride and groom feel special, and they are not as hard to put together as you might think... read on

Learn how to write cute wedding poems the easy way

wedding quotes are a great way to start your poems, and it would be even better if you could get the best man to read your cute poem out, when he is reading the cards during the reception.

now most people like the idea of putting together beautiful weddingpoems, but would not know where to start when writing one, so you have two choices you can either read a good pre written one, or put pen to paper and write your own.

I always think it is best and more original to write your own, it’s not as hard as you might think, you just need to follow a few basic pointers

also reading poems enhances the whole day perfectly, just remember these three points

keep it short and sweet

Make sure it rhymes

do not use sex or swear words

You don’t need to write a prize winning piece of work, keep it brief, maybe 3 or at most 4 verses, the best remembered lines will be when you keep it short and too the point. you could make it humorous and funny as well as touching at the same time

there is the option to go free verse, or rhyming and i think the best option is to rhyme it just sounds better and rolls of the tongue a lot easier

and finally do not use bad language or sexual connotations in your poem, remember we are making it cute not offensive, you have to take the time to think about your audience, is there children, or grandparents that could be offended

good luck with your wedding poems

top tips for the groom's mother not to feel left out and deliver a humourous and heart warming wedding speech

At most weddings it is unusual for a speech to be given by the mother of the groom, but sometimes appropriate. As always with any kind of wedding speech a good structure and a little bit of humor go along way to developing rapport with your wedding guests.

often the mother of the groom feels as though she has lost a son, and that his new wife is going to take the place of the mother, of course this is not the case but convincing the mother of the groom is sometimes difficult.

The structure of a good speech should always follow these guidelines and the same goes for a speech given by the mother of the groom.

A good opening line

A good middle - praise for the bride and groom , and thanking the other relatives, family and guests

A strong finish - wrapping up with a toast to the newlyweds.

Here is a cracking opening that a mother of the groom could start with

” well at last Ive found somebody to take him off my hands, I never thought I was going to get rid of him”

you could make reference to changing his diapers, and the state of his room and hygiene habits, typical to a teenage boy.

And now that he is all grown up and married, you hope that your new daughter in law, is aware of what she is letting her self in for.

all in good humor, and a kind spirit, you can rib your son, and welcome the bride to your family

You could finish with a good one liner before you do the toasts, and hope they have a great life together and remember that behind every successful man is a surprised mother in law.

a good tip to help if your nervous about giving your speech, is to talk slightly louder and faster than you would normally, trust me it helps, and that shouldn’t be difficult for a lady to do, my wife speaks at 400 words per minute, with gusts up to 600 (its a lady thing)
Enjoy the day, enjoy the surroundigs, write a few bullet points of what you would like to say, Don’t try to read your speech as it sounds canned and boring and get a little bit of humor into your words and you will have a great day

how to give funny father of the bride wedding toasts, learn the simple tactics to deliver an emotional and heartfelt speech

To give a funny father of the bride wedding toast, is an honor and a scary thought at the same time. There is no doubt how proud you are of your daughter as you walked down the isle, and you gave her away to your new son in law.

The bridal shower is over, the batchelor party is long forgotten and the big day is here.

The blushing bride and groom are now looking forward to their honeymoon, while you on the other hand are stressing over your speech you will give later in the day.

So lets go through a checklist and give you a couple of tips to ensure that your the man for the job, and that when you get to the reception yours is one of the speeches people won’t forget in a hurry.

Wedding toasts are one the special times that you need to do a little preperation work for, don’t worry you won’t have to be like Tony Robbins, but some simple steps put in place will guide you through your speech smoothly.

As I am writing this article, it reminds me of a traditional irish wedding I attended where the relationship between the family and other guests was at first cold to say the least. the brides family sat on one side and the groom’s family sat on the other, but after the humor, warmth and jokes from the speeches, the atmosphere was lifted and a great time was had by all.

The bad news is that yours is the first of the wedding speeches, the good news is that it will be over and out of the way, leaving you free to enjoy the maid of honor and best man playing their part.

Most people will tell you to just have a few drinks and just say what comes to mind, don’t even think about it when you stand up in front of all those people your tiny little brain will switch off, and in an instant you will stand there a stuttering wreck.

follow these quick guidelines

The etiquette of your speech is important and your first job is to welcome the grooms family and other guests and thank them for attending the marriage of your daughter to your new son in law.

You will then welcome the groom to your family and ask him to look after your daughter, and care for her the same way she has been cared for all her life. Its also a good idea to mention the grooms parents and give them a special mention.

Then its time to get emotional about your daughter, telling a funny story from her childhood, or silly arguments between her brother or sister, but that deep down they love each other, try to get the message across of how happy she was. And now that she is all grown up, she’s a bit heavy to be still bouncing on your knee.

throw in some classic quotes like these

I have heard that there are 3 rings to a marriage, first is the engagement ring, then the wedding ring, and then the suffering - that will get a few laughs

or how about this

In the car on the way to the church as the brides father you felt it was your responsibilty to give some advice for a long and happy marriage

Ask her to remember that men only have 2 faults - everything they say, and everything they do.

Then you raise your glasses and toast to the future health, wealth and happiness of the bride and groom, remember the business of wedding speeches does not have to be torture, one of the chief aims is being prepared and the rest will follow

with these tips you wont need to search for answers to what to say, it will flow automaticly and that means laughter and applause from the guests - fantastic.

Tell the happy couple to live long and happy lives, and that by the time their first anniversary comes round they will have built a solid foundation for a successful marriage

write down bullet points ona 3×5 card - dont read your speech it sounds awful, just have some pointers about what you want to say, and most of all enjoy

yes you will have nerves, to overcome them talk a little louder and slighty faster than you normaly do, refer to your bullet points and knock em dead.

When you have been asked to give a best mans speech, you need to prepare so that people will remember it for a long time to come, find out how today....

Being asked to make a best mans speech, is an honour and a petrifying prospect as the same time. Lets face it most people would rather stand in a cold shower ripping up $20 bills than stand up in front of a room full of people and deliver a speech at a wedding.

not only are you the one that most guests expect you to be funny, you also have to think of the bride and groom, let alone the father of the bride.

so one of the best ways to deliver a knock em dead best man speech, is to use humor without offending anyone at the same time.

and that needs guidance

I remember being at a wedding and the best man cracking a joke that the only reason the bride had married the groom was because he had a 12 inch tongue and could breath through his ears.

now in a room full of blokes that would have been a good laugh, but at a wedding ceremony with the brides parents and grandparents, not to mention children present, it was distasteful and upset alot of people, he didn’t stay for the night time function.

so we need to be funny without offending

and here are some good jokes for a best man speech at a wedding

a good best man speech, should have a good opening, and a good funny joke will help get the ball rolling

a good one is this right of the bat

ladies and gentleman, before I start I would like to take a minute to thank the sponsors of the wedding speeches today, IMModium - its helped us stick together inmore way than one - believe me that will get a laugh

when it comes to ribbing the groom a little you could use something like this

lets say the grooms name is Phil

I’m not sure ladies and gentlemen what Louise ever saw in Phil, I mean he was never the sharpest tool in the box, he though Ellsmere port was a fiver a bottle, he thought Gerry Daly was a German newspaper, and he thought a geriatric was Germany’s leading goal scorer

He used to copy of the guy sat in front of him in the school tests, it wasn’t until a few months later he realized he was sitting in front of a mirror

see nice and gentle, your getting laughs and not offending anyone, except any German relatives, so its best to check your audience before hand

now the best man also has to comment on how beautiful the bride looks, and the bridesmaids for doing such a great job.

here’s another 2 crackers you could throw in

ladies and gentlemen on the way to the church Phil asked me what the secret to a successful marriage was, I responded by saying that i thought it was sex, oh yes, since I was married I have Sex nearly every night, - I nearly had it last night - I nearly had it the night before, - nearly had it the month before etc…

that will get a few titters from the married man in the audience believe me

follow that up with

Phil asked me to stop off at the chemist on the way down to get some paracetamol in case he got a headache, and we were stood at the counter near to the condoms (you can say condoms without offending anyone) and he said wow look at all these different pack sizes

whats this 3 pack for he said

that’s for when your 18 - 21 I said, one for Friday night and two for Saturday night

Whats this six pack for then he said

that’s for when your 21 - 25 when your in your prime 2 for Friday night, 3 for Saturday night and one for Sunday morning.

and what this 12 pack for then

that Phil is for when your married, one for January, one for February, one for march….etc

again a great joke without offence

as your nearing the end of your brilliant speech as best man, here is a great joke before you toast the bride and groom and boy are you going to be glad you found this site for this cracker

ok just before you make the toast this is what you say

ladies and gentlemen, just before we toast the bride and groom on their wedding day, i would like to offer a small piece of advice for a long and happy marriage.

Turn to Phil and say

Phil what you need to do, is do what I did on my wedding night in the hotel room after the function, I took my pants off threw them to my wife and said - “put them on” - “what” she said “Just put them” on I said, so she put them on and i say “right that the first and the last time your wearing the pants in this marriage”

pause for the laughter before continuing

so she takes off the pants throws them at me, and then takes off her nickers and throws them at me and says “put them on” - I said “you what” - she says “go one put them on”

and i said “I will never get into them nickers” and she says “I know and unless you change that attitude you wont do either”

believe me that will have people coming up to you later saying how funny you were

so to recap

the keys to a funny best man wedding speech are

funny but not rude
good opening
terrific finish

If your feeling nervous, talk a little louder and faster than you normally would, and have some 3 x 5 cards to make bullet points to help you through your speech, don’t read your speech, it sound crap, just look at your bullet points and expand on them

Don’t have too many drinks before your speech, it will kill you believe me, theres plenty of time for drinking later

follow these guidelines and you wont go far wrong

now get writing them bullet points and enjoy the wedding day

wedding toasts that are funny without being offensive are one of the best and most memorable.

A funny wedding speech which is truly humorous and witty at the same time is one of the harder wedding speeches. Comedy is not easy and is definitely not anybody’s cup of tea. A funny wedding speech is not about including a joke or two in your speech.

You need to apply your sense of humor to make your speech really funny and interesting. Here are some thoughts that should be able to help to compose some really funny wedding speeches. And with a bit of patience and effort from your part it’s not hard to achieve.

You’re all decked out in fancy dresses and tuxedos. The audience’s expectations are high, and now you have to deliver whether you like it or not. It doesn’t matter whether you’re the bridesmaid, best man or father of the bride. Giving a speech or a toast at a wedding can be nerve racking. But, it doesn’t have to be if you follow some basic rules, even if you’re trying to make it funny.

If you want your speech to be a funny wedding speech you still have to start out in similar fashion. First and foremost give thanks to the necessary people. This takes homework throughout the wedding preparations and even during the same wedding reception you’re giving the speech to. Who created lavish wedding cake? Was the bride’s wedding gown made by a relative? “Thank you’s” are always a good way to start, whether it’s a funny wedding speech or not.

Now, when it all boils down, humor, intentional or otherwise, is a big crowd pleaser at weddings. While it is primarily for the benefit of the guests, it will often help you to feel more comfortable standing in front of everyone, especially if you get some hearty laughs, which more often than not you will. Very often, the laughs will come at unexpected moments, which although have the potential to put you off your stride, are very welcome.

Just occasionally, you will be one of those lucky people who find the guests rolling around in hysterics at just about everything and anything you say. It’s a thrilling moment and one which subconsciously starts you thinking about a career in public speaking, but more importantly, results in a memorable wedding for everyone.

The best wedding speeches are those that blend humor with sentimental moments. Of course, if it’s too sentimental you’ll have guests crying in their beer and if you have too many jokes it’s not good either. To make your speech humorous a joke or two is fine but if it is composed entirely of jokes simply stop and add in a few serious and sentimental parts to make a well-rounded funny wedding speech. Here are some wedding speech jokes a few of which you may consider to include in your speech.

If you are about to be a best man, please take this piece of advice: Do not under any circumstances tell risqué stories about the groom’s past sexual exploits. It may seem hysterically funny to you, but remember that your speech is for the benefit of the happy couple and the guests. The bride and groom will not be happy and the guests will not think you are either clever or funny.

To summarize good funny wedding speeches, start out with some heartfelt “thank you’s,” mix in humor with real life examples for the meat of the speech, and end with a sentiment for the bride and groom. Hopefully the crowd will appreciate what you have just done as much as you.

Weddings are great occasions, the church, the ceremony, the wedding dress, the food and drink, but don’t forget about one of the most memorable parts of the day, the wedding speeches, its not easy to give a wedding speech, particularly writing a groom speech, so follow this advice and you wont go far wrong

Grooms speeches are one of the hardest to put together because its your special day, and you have enough to worry about including the fact that you have just got married.

Here are three top tips to make sure your groom’s wedding speech is a memorable one.and its all in the planning

Plan ahead

Avoid too much alcohol

Never use foul language

Always plan ahead, which will give you confidence and think about what you have to say about your beautiful new bride, you don’t need to be master speaker to achieve this, just have a beginning, a middle, and and end to your speech, use all resources available to you, ask friends for their ideas and remember to create a plan of how you want it to go, before writing your speech.

Start by getting some small 3×5 cards to write some bullet points to give you reminders of what to say, and just expand upon them.

notice i said bullet points, do not write your speech word for word, and even worse read it word for word, it will sound awful, trust me i have been to enough weddings as toastmaster to tell you it simply sounds rubbish

So now you have a foundation to build on, and will with practise put together the perfect speech

This leads us to our second pointer, avoiding alcohol, you can a glass of wine or a small beer, but wait until after the speeches have been given before you go for it on the beer, don’t think that Dutch courage works, it will make you likely to lose your concentration and focus, and nothing sounds worse than a slurring fool dying on his feet.

And never use foul language, a joke between a few blokes is different to a room full of wedding guests, more than likely there will be children, and even grand parents who could easily take offence if its too strong

Humor is an important part of your speech, and this is usually your chance to get one over on the best man, as he generally speaks after you, but bear in mind he probably has a barrage of jokes and anecdotes about you, and every one always looks to the best man to be the funniest, which takes a little bit of pressure off you.

At the wedding reception your job is to thank and welcome the guests, both sets of family parents, particularly the father of the bride who gave his daughter away, all the other speech givers, the maid of honor and then to thank your blushing bride, and how beautiful she looks.

You should take no longer than 10 mins maybe even less, open with a one liner, have a good funny story about how you met as a couple, or an amusing and lighthearted joke about something you have done together, and then have a strong finish before you hand over to the best man

So to recap for the best groom speech

Prepare by having something written down, avoid alcohol, and don’t use foul language, practice, keep it simple, have fun and enjoy the wedding reception, and the rest of your married lives together, and every person in the room should be toasting you

Writing a best man speech is simple if you follow this advice, ignore it at your peril

What a milestone to reach 50 years of being married together, its probably more than half your life with the same partner, and that is something to be cherished and truly celebrated, so you need to plan ahead for a great golden wedding speech.

Being asked to make a golden wedding speech is very important as you need to really to pull out all of the stops to make sure this wedding anniversary is a truly memorable one.

There is nothing to make you feel more proud than if the special couple are your parents, as you will appreciate more than anyone the struggles they have had along the rocky road of life to reach fifty years together.

It might be that you have been asked to make the speech as family friend, and again its emotional to talk about a personal friend who has achieved so much.

Here’s some top tips to make sure your golden wedding speech goes down a storm, but planning is the key to a good speech, because not everyone is a talented public speaker and when you stand up in front of a room full of wedding guests, unless you have something written down, your mind will go blank, believe me its happened to me.

To help you should concentrate solely on the special couple and pretend there is no one else in the room, this will help with your nerves.Talk openly from the heart and speak a little faster and louder than you normally would to keep the nerves at bay.

One of the best pieces of advice i can give you is to get some 3 x 5 cards and write some bullet points about what you would like to say, and flesh them out when talking, also don’t worry about having notes, even professionals speak from auto cue, and it help so much to keep things flowing nicely

You could start by telling people a little about yourself and how you know the couple, and how much of an achievement it is to reach this milestone together.

You could talk about the importance of being together so long, and if you have a present for them, now might be a good time to present it to them

Tell people about a funny event that sticks in your mind about them, after 50 years there must be many to choose from.

Talk about an emotional point or part of their life they had to battle though maybe through hardship etc, and how much their love seen them through

The night they first met, is always an amusing story and gets a good laugh

Ask relatives and friends about the things they say about them, perhaps you could read a few out in your speech.

Talk about something the couple have done that has had an impact on your life and those around you

With wedding speeches the most important thing is to have a plan, create an opening, a middle, and a good end to your speech, search for ideas from other people, ring round and get friends to email you ideas, log on and search a site like this, then get stuck in to writing your wedding toast .

But remember fifty years of marriage together deserves a special speech, and if you follow these guidelines you wont go far wrong, and it will be alright on the night, and you can go home very happy and content.

here is some great advice on best man speeches that wil lleave your guests begging for more

when I was asked to be my friends best man at his upcoming wedding, two things crossed my mind, firstly had all his other friends left town or turned him down, and secondly what the hell am I going to say in my speech

That was many years ago, and I have given many speeches since then as best man, and also as a master of ceremonies

here is some good advice on best man speeches I can give you

do not try to give a speech without being prepared and writing something down

try to avoid too many drinks before you give your speech

lay off the dirty jokes and keep it clean

Never ever try to simply wing it with a wedding speech, believe me from experience once you stand up to speak infront of a room full of wedding guests your mind will go blank, you will feel your heart beating out of your chest, and you will totally lose your way.

what you need to do, is have some bullet points written out which will guide you through the speech and allow you to feel confident which will come across to your reception guests.

please do not think you will perform better with a belly full of booze to give you some confidence, the last thing the bride needs is to be subjected to a stuttering and tipsy best man, by all means you will take the Mickey out of them both, but in the right way, you will find more advice on being funny in my other article best man jokes… read it and enjoy

finally don’t go down the path of bad taste, think about your audience and wedding guests, have good wedding etiquette there could be toddlers, children or grandfathers and grandmothers and the last thing you need is to offend anyone at a wedding reception

so there you go - some great advice on best man speeches if I do say so myself

to recap

prepare

keep it clean

stay sober

And enjoy your day as best man, deliver a great speech and people will remember it for a long time to come

thanks for reading - please feel free to leave a comment
