Weddings are great occasions, the church, the ceremony, the wedding dress, the food and drink, but don’t forget about one of the most memorable parts of the day, the wedding speeches, its not easy to give a wedding speech, particularly writing a groom speech, so follow this advice and you wont go far wrong

This leads us to our second pointer, avoiding alcohol, you can a glass of wine or a small beer, but wait until after the speeches have been given before you go for it on the beer, don’t think that Dutch courage works, it will make you likely to lose your concentration and focus, and nothing sounds worse than a slurring fool dying on his feet.

And never use foul language, a joke between a few blokes is different to a room full of wedding guests, more than likely there will be children, and even grand parents who could easily take offence if its too strong

Humor is an important part of your speech, and this is usually your chance to get one over on the best man, as he generally speaks after you, but bear in mind he probably has a barrage of jokes and anecdotes about you, and every one always looks to the best man to be the funniest, which takes a little bit of pressure off you.

• do not try to give a speech without being prepared and writing something down

• lay off the dirty jokes and keep it clean

Never ever try to simply wing it with a wedding speech, believe me from experience once you stand up to speak infront of a room full of wedding guests your mind will go blank, you will feel your heart beating out of your chest, and you will totally lose your way.
